How to install and play Wake of Gods without errors (outdated)
This tutorial is outdated, I recommend installing Wake of Gods via ERA 3 launcher.
Step 1. – Installation of Heroes 3 Complete
For the installation it is required to have Heroes 3 installed on your computer, ideally the Complete version, highly recommended from the site GOG.COM, this version is DRM FREE and doesn´t require a CD to start up. After that installation is fairly simple, it requires to download the installation file, save to your computer and boot up.
An important step is choosing the right destination folder where Heroes 3 Complete is installed. Click on the “Browse” button and click your way to the Heroes 3 Complete folder. I have my game installed directly on the C drive c:\gog gamess\heroes 3 complete wog. Do not install the game in a Program Files folder. Click “Install”.
Step 2. – Installation of Wake of Gods (ERA 2)
First you need to understand that term ERA = Wake of Gods. So download the latest version of ERA to PC:

Run installer Era 2.8.3.exe and select folder with Heroes 3 Complete WoG then click “Install” button:
After installation, two new icons appear on the Desktop. Era Start Menu and Era II.
Run Era Start Menu:
The base Wake of Gods is installed. Try running the “In the Wake of Gods” from the menu. When the game started, try to create Random map. If an “Cannot create Random_Map.H3M in data directory” error message appears, fix it.
Step 3. – Installation of WoG Revised mod
This mod removes or fixes all bugged scripts from Era and replaces them with other options. A few ones were replaced because they were decorative and without any improvement to the gameplay.

Download and unzip [Platforms] WoG Revised.zip archive and run [Platforms] WoG Revised.exe and select folder with Heroes 3 Complete WoG then click “Extract” button. Confirm the installation. Every other standard mod is installed exactly the same.
Step 4. – Mods Manager
Start the Mods Manager from Era Start Menu. After installing the WoG Revised modification, it should look something like this:
WoG Revised modification must always be on top. I disable Fast Battle Animation mod because the movement of the units is tooooo fast.
Step 5. – Other recommended mods (optional)
- Upgrade ALL – adds one custom button in town screen – Upgrades all creatures at once
- XXL map patch – adds XXL maps support (it is not necessary if you are using HD mod)
- Quick Army Managment – (it is not necessary if you are using HD mod)
- Bad Luck – now bad luck works in battles
- Replayable Battle
- Heroes Chronicles
Step 6. – HD mod
HoMM 3 HD mod (aka HiRez mod, Multi-Resolution patch, HoMM3 High Resolution Project) is an addon pack for Heroes of Might and Magic 3 that changes game resolution to any from 800×600 to 4000×4000, adds new functionality and fixes some original bugs. HoMM 3 HD mod will not change original gameplay.

Download the latest version and run HoMM3_HD_Latest_setup.exe then select folder with Heroes 3 Complete WoG then click “Next” button.
Run HD_Launcher.exe after installation. Set your desired resolution and click Play. To play in the window, press F4 while playing-
Step 7 – Mods Manager Final
After installing the recommended mods, your Mods Manager should look like this (I disabled XXL patch and Army Managment because i use HD mod):
Step 8 – WoG Options (recommendations)

Nazdar, tak to je zvláštne, s modifikáciou Upgrade All som problém nemal. Akú máš inštalovanú verziu ERA 2? Máš GOG verziu Heroes 3 a je inštalovaná na disku C: (nie v Program Files).
Tútp chybu som už riešil, (https://heroes3wog.net/msvcr120-dll-is-missing-from-your-computer/) bolo treba stiahnuť Visaual C++ https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=40784 skús a daj vedieť.
Tak jsem to už vyřešil, stačilo v era mod manageru kliknout na add mod a instalovat to odtamtud.
Super, aspoň budem vedieť do budúcna.
Hello I did a clean installation, followed the steps and after loading a map I get messages “input string not found”. That’s exactly after loading the random map. The game itself is playable but the Commander is not available(when I clicked he doesn’t appear). I tested the installation for some time and it turned out it happens on step 6 and the installation of the HD mod. Any suggestions how to proceed?

Can somebody help me? I installed WoG as described here, and tried to play Campaign. However, it seems that in WoG Campaigns I cannot leave troops by right-clicking on adventure map or demolish town buildings by right-clicking, which would be needed to progress in the campaign. If I enable these two options under WoGify options when starting a new Single scenario, it will only take effect to Single scenarios, random maps, tutorial, and other, RoE and AB campaigns, but not WoG campaigns. What do I need to do to get it work?

Hello Clyde, try save your WOG Options settings to a new file and then press F12 in your campaign.
Thanks, I tried it. It’s the same however. I just get a message ‘ERM and language data were reloaded’ when I press F12, but nothing seems to change. Which settings does it load then? The last one used? By ‘saving WOG options settings to a new file’ you mean that I only need to press ‘save’ and then give a different name?

Hi, Im having an issue, after installation only first page of wog options appears, others dont. Only “wogify settings”, others like “map options” “objects and artifacts ” etc are absent, why is that? I had previous versions of era and they seemed all fine, but this one only problems.

Ive tried everything to correct it.. reinstalled 4 times, trying both a crack version of homm and the original downloaded from your link – nothing works corecting that error 🙁
I have another problem tho and that is, i cant seem to get the Wogify map rules to work. For example, i want all heroes to move twice as long , but that doesnt work like the rest of them

I’ve followed step 1 and 2. Step 3 should be to open the game and try and generate a random map but Game doesn’t even start for me. The error message reads:
The code execution cannot proceed because mss32.dll was not found. Reinstalling the program may fix this problem.
I have reinstalled everything 4 times not in different folders but same message keeps coming up. I own the GOG complete version of the game and have just downloaded the newest version of ERA.

Hi, I have tried everything I can think of but still cannot enable “leave troops by right-clicking on adventure map”. I have edited [Gameplay] In the Wake of Gods and [Platforms] WoG Revised “Change WoG options. I have tried to edit the main.erm in WoG mods with !#UN:P3/0; I can’t seem to figure out how to enable right-click inside the campaigns…which you need to complete. Right click works perfectly fine in single scenarios. I am on Win 10 Pro, GOG Heroes Complete and have followed this tutorial page exactly. Thanks,

I cannot seem to get right-click leave troops to work in campaign. I have followed the tutorial for no error install with no success. I have tried to edit the main.erm with !#UN:P3/0; . I have started with fresh version of Windows 10. I have tried to Change WoG options in Mod Manager but nothing works. I really want to play the campaigns but cannot get past leave troop elements. First many thanks for this mod. And its great at this discussion is alive and you answer with patient.
I am struggling and trying to run WOG on Ubuntu. I am Using Wine. HOMM3 worked fine. I played whole RoE campaign. Sometimes occasionally crashed ( due wine, i guess. ) But I started game again and it was fine.
WOG is a bit challenge. Crashed as HOMM3 before, but it was OK. But now, it crash after one particular place, after end of the turn button is pressed. It stopped on AUTOSAVING … I cant get over this. I tried to delete autosave save file, but it doesn’t help. Any advice?

As mentioned in comments before, I have only one tab on WOG options, only the first one. Is this ERA related problem as you mentioned? do we have wait to the new update? or maybe use the old version?
I am not sure about wogivize a map. How to do it? I started a single scenario. It was OK. Had a commander working. But i dont see 8 level creatures, I dont see mythril … Any advice again.
PS: I never seen this ERA menu. Due to the Linux/Ubuntu and Wine, i am starting game through command line with h3era.exe.
PS2: Many more cyberpunk 2077 mods are still to be created in 2021.
So if somebody have some god advice or experience in general with HOMM3 / WOG under Linux/Ubuntu i would be very happy to hear it.

I uninstalled whole HOMM3 and installed again.
It is not installed in program files
Than I istalled newest ERA. I checked Random map, its working
Than I inslalled platforms wog revised
than i started mod manager.
There have I in ENABLED: “[Platforms] WOG revised” and “[Gameplay] In the wake of Gods
And in DISABLED “Yona” , “fast battle animation” , “Secondary skills scrolling” and “quick savings”
So I enabled ALL of them and moved revised up to thw first place
Than I installed XXL patch aand HD mod. AND voila. Looks pretty cool, I get all options in WOG. Looks like games is working. Now I keeps testing. I am comming with new updates 😀

Narazil som na problem ked som spustil WOG kampan. Prvu s peasantom. Nemozem nechat Dana na mape, lebo ta funkcia nie je zapnuta.
Ako to (a vsetky WOG options) zmenim pri kampani? Ked si spustim Single mapu, tak pri spusteni sa da vsetko vo WOG nastavit. Ale kde je to pri kampani? Lebo ked si savnem tu kampan s Danom a dam znova load, tak tam vidim ze vsetky nastavenia su odznacene. Podobny problem som mal pri tutorialy. Ale spustil som mod manager a tam sa da zmenit wog nastavenia. Zapol som si znicenie budov a zanechanie jednotiek. Ale pri kampani toto nastavenie hra neberie do uvahy. Kde robim chybu?

Nazdar Miro, prepáč za neskorú odpoveď. Bohužiaľ nové verzie ERA 2.9+ majú problém s kampaňou, musíme počkať na verziu 3.
Kampane na WOG by mali ísť, ale je dosť možné že WoG nastavenia ti úplne pokazia hru. Na hranie kampaní pod WoG musíš použiť modifikáciu Safe_SoD mod.

I have a problem with the installation of WOG. I have windows 7, and when i try to start the installation file “Era 2.9.13” i get a “alert message” from Windows 7. It says that I can’t open the file due to virus in the file. I have tried to by-pass this message but not succeeded. Do you have any tips on how I can “override” this warning-message from Windows?

Hi Joakim, what antivirus do you use? Because some of them block the file, they falsely mark it as infected. Deactivate it for a while and install ERA, ideally according to these instructions: https://heroes3wog.net/how-to-install-heroes-3-era-gaming-build/

Hi, when we play multiplayer, a player attacks another player (both humans), and one can move and then should be the turn of the second player, and this cant move, and he continues seeing the other player turn, its so annoying this. Is there any solution to this issue?

Hi. I’ve installed Heroes III Complete and Era 3 launcher. However, when I run the launcher, that message about a new update is coming up. There are options yes and no, but they both do the same thing. When I try to update it, the patching never finishes, it reaches to some point close to the end and then it’s always aborted. I can’t also see much of an explanation for that. I tried to uninstall / reinstall it few times (I do everything as per the video, with the folders and so on), but always the same thing happens. I have Windows 10. Any help will be appreciated.
Exactly the same situation with me, the patch from version 2.4 to 2.924 never completes, win10 and also tried on win11!
1) try run launcher as admin
2) disable any active av (and check av logs)
3) set your timezone temporarily to utc+3
last point usually works 😉
