The holidays are approaching, there will be a lot of free time, so why not use it for any of amazing Heroes mods. I chose the best Heroes 3 mods for which I also prepared step-by-step installation instructions. And as a bonus I added  modifications for Heroes II and Heroes V.

Heroes of Might and Magic III HD mod (HoMM3 HD)

Initially, the HoMM3 HD mod was created to change the original game resolution 800×600 to a bigger but now it has even more features. Please don’t confuse this mod with Heroes 3 HD Edition released by UbiSoft on STEAM.

HoMM 3 HD mod does not affect the original gameplay and improves the interface functionality, makes it more comfortable to play and fixes a some original game bugs.

ERA 3 Launcher (Heroes of Might and Magic III: In the Wake of Gods, WoG)

ERA 3 Launcher contains the latest version of ERA 3, HD mod with Online Lobby, ERA Scrips, Unleashed Map Editor, Mixed Neutrals mod, XXL maps support, Game Enhancement mod, Advanced Classes mod, BattleQueue mod  and more in one installation package! And the best thing at last, the ERA 3 Launcher also includes an auto-update feature, so you don’t have to worry about searching for updates, everything will be done by itself.

ERA 3 is much more advanced, optimized, stable and includes Wake of Gods (WoG) as a modification. For me personally, this is the best way to discover a New Life of Heroes of Might and Magic!

Heroes of Might and Magic III: The Succession Wars mod

Heroes of Might and Magic III: The Succession Wars is a total conversion of Heroes III dedicated to the fairy-tale atmosphere and graphic style of its prequel, Heroes II.

The mod adds a lot of new content, such as creatures, castles, and artifacts to name a few, and provides fresh gaming impressions as well as a great amount of nostalgic feelings at the same time.

Heroes of Might and Magic III: Horn of the Abyss

Horn of the Abyss is a global add-on for Heroes of might and magic III that extends classical gameplay elements and adds some of its own. On a more conceptual level – HotA is an attempt to continue legendary series RoE-AB-SoD as close to the original as it could have been done by NWC team, if only they had more desire, resources or even understanding of their own game.

The expansion features a completely new Cove town with campaign, new artifacts, neutral creatures, adventure map objects etc. and I hope that version 1.7 with the new Factory town will be released at the beginning of the year.

VCMI Project – Heroes 3: WoG recreated

The purpose of VCMI project is to rewrite the entire Heroes of Might and Magic III engine from scratch, giving it new and extended possibilities. We hope to support mods and new towns already made by fans but abandoned because of game code limitations.

As of VCMI 1.2 and newer Windows 10 or newer is required. Our automated system uses elements incompatible with older Windows in modules that use Intel TBB library.

Might & Magic: Heroes 5.5

Might & Magic: Heroes 5.5 is an unofficial expansion pack for Tribes of the East or HoMM 5 Complete and a spiritual successor to the popular WoG modification for HoMM3. The pack will include many new adventure objects, new larger battlefields, new heroes, new classes, new specializations, new skills, new artifacts, new adventure spells, new HD textures and a greatly improved RMG with more than 60 ‚visualized‘ Templates.

Fheroes2: Resurrection project (Heroes of Might and Magic II)

Free Heroes of Might and Magic II (fheroes2) is a recreation of Heroes 2 game engine. This open-source multi-platform project is aimed to fully replicate the original game with meaningful changes for gameplay, graphics and logic, bringing a new life to one of the most anticipated turn-based strategies. The project is in active phase of development and once reaching 1.0 version will be continued with an add-on development.

Heroes of Might and Magic IV HD mod (GL Wrapper)

Heroes 4 HD mod allows play Heroes of Might and Magic IV on 16:9, 16:10 screens. It is based on HoMM IV GL Wrapper, so it requires it. But download package has already the last version of GL Wrapper, so you don’t need download it separately.

Bonus: Christmas themed mod for Heroes 2

The New Year Mod for Heroes of Might and Magic II is a Christmas-themed graphical conversion of HoMM2 assets intended to keep the original graphic style. The idea of this mod was born suddenly, when a few fellow forum members on Russian HandBookHMM.ru community in December 2014 thought about a new form of an offline tournament which would be able to revive the HoMM2 gaming community to some degree.
