Heroes of Might and Magic Is coming back to consoles
After more than 25 years, the Heroes of Might and Magic series is returning to consoles. And this is exactly why I decided to write this article.
Since the announcement, several people have told me in the comments on our Facebook page and YouTube channel that they had no idea Heroes III was coming to consoles. The console release has received surprisingly little attention, despite being a major moment for the series.
So, for anyone who missed the news: yes, Heroes is finally coming to modern consoles.
The last Heroes game on a console was released in 2001
The last officially released game carrying the Heroes of Might and Magic name on a console was Heroes of Might and Magic: Quest for the Dragon Bone Staff, released for the PlayStation 2 in 2001.
However, it was quite different from the classic Heroes games, being essentially a Heroes-branded adaptation of the original King’s Bounty.
Since then, Heroes has remained primarily a PC series. A planned Dreamcast version of Heroes III was cancelled and never officially released.
Heroes III is coming to Xbox and PlayStation
The new remake will bring the complete Heroes III experience, including The Restoration of Erathia, Armageddon’s Blade and The Shadow of Death, all original factions and campaigns, improved multiplayer for up to eight players, Hot Seat, community maps and updated editor tools.
The upcoming Heroes of Might and Magic III Remake will launch in 2027 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S|X.
Heroes with gamepad?
I also own an Xbox Series S, so I’m personally very curious to see how Heroes III will feel with a gamepad.
Turn-based strategy games I’ve played on Xbox, such as Songs of Conquest, XCOM 2 and Disciples, have shown that this genre can actually work surprisingly well with a controller.
Now I’m really looking forward to seeing whether the classic Heroes experience can make the transition just as successfully.
