Broken Alliance is a 2D pixel art turn-based adventure strategy game with strong RPG elements, inspired by old school classics such as Heroes of Might and Magic 2, Age of Wonders, Master of Magic and Disciples… with a twist. Broken Alliance features a card combat system that allows each faction for unique gameplay. Expand your kingdom, build up your army, train your Heroes and make or break alliances to save your people from a collapsing world.

About the Broken Alliance team
The core team of 9 people working on Broken Alliance is comprised of industry newcomers and veterans alike, most of them from Estonia. Members of the team have worked on games such as Disco Elysium, the Might and Magic: Heroes series, Metro franchise, Saints Row and the Fable series, amongst many others. This is the teams second bigger game, first one being Death and Taxes, a grim reaper office simulation.
So… why this game?
Multiple members of Placeholder Gameworks team are fans of the genre of turn based fantasy-RPG’s, some of us have worked on games of the Heroes of Might and Magic series. We want to innovate in the genre and mix it with card game/deck building elements of modern games to make something new that we would also love to play ourselves.
Placeholder Gameworks started from the get-go dedicated to making thought-provoking narrative based games. Our first game was all about death positivity and we find that Broken Alliance is a perfect game to have themes about climate change and nature protection in a fantasy setting.
Even though our last game was a very different one, we don’t want to get in our comfort zone and we are committed to making something new. Not a lot of indie teams make strategy games and we think it is a great challenge for us.
