Cities & Faction Laws – HoMM: Olden Era Begginer’s Guide #3
Cities are the cornerstone of your progress in the game. Each is unique and offers several paths to empower your Heroes and their armies.
Buildings
Construct new buildings to expand your city’s capabilities. Buildings unlock features such as army recruitment, unit upgrades, trading, and more. Construction requires resources and, at times, specific prerequisite building. By default, you can only construct one building a day.
Recruiting Creatures
One of a City’s core functions is the recruitment of Creatures. In this screen, you can hover over any creature to see its stats and resource cost, including any potential enhanced versions. Creatures inside your cities can be recruited without a Hero, as they’ll go to your garrison. However, a Hero must be present at a Creature Dwelling in order to recruit said Creatures.
Upgrading Creatures
Upgraded buildings allow you to enhance your Creatures. Note that Creatures can only be upgraded in Cities that have the prerequisite buildings.
Recruiting Heroes
Once a Tavern is built, you can recruit additional Heroes. While not essential, having multiple Heroes gives you greater flexibility and control over the map.
Trading Resources and Artifacts
Construct a Marketplace to exchange resources and artifacts, helping you manage your economy more efficiently. The more Marketplaces you own, the better rates you’ll get.
Unique Faction Abilities
Every faction offers distinct advantages. Cities tied to a specific faction provide access to exclusive features that can dramatically shift the game in your favor.
Cities can hold two Heroes at a time – one in the garrison position (top slot) and one in the guest position (bottom slot). You can freely move Heroes and creature stacks between the garrison and guest positions; however, there are a
few things to keep in mind:
- Every Hero must have at least one creature stack.
- Creature stacks can remain in the garrison position without a hero.
- Creature stacks cannot remain in the guest position without a hero
HoMM: Olden Era Faction Laws
While not directly tied to Cities, Faction Laws are accessible through the Cities or Global Map. Faction laws are a series of faction-wide effects that are unlocked through the accumulation of Law Points. Once the bar at the bottom of the screen fills up, you are awarded a Law Seal, by which you can unlock Faction Laws.
These Faction Laws encompass a range of effects, from resource generation to creature recruitment buffs, to battle effects, and Hero stat increases.
