Heroes - HoMM: Olden Era Begginer's Guide #5Hero Attributes, Morale, and Luck

A set of stats influenced by armor, items, and experience. From left to right:

  1. Attack – increases the Damage of your Creatures in combat.
  2. Defense – decreases the Damage your Creatures take in combat.
  3. Spell Power – Boosts the effectiveness of spells. Higher values mean increased spell Damage and longer durations for positive or negative effects.
  4. Knowledge – increases the Hero’s maximum Mana, allowing for more spellcasting during combat.
  5. Luck – influences the chance of landing a Lucky (enhanced) or Unlucky (weakened) Strike.
  6. Morale – affects creature behavior: high Morale can give a stack an extra turn, while low Morale can cause it to skip its turn.
NOTE: The greater the number of factions present in a single army, the lower its overall Morale. An army composed of one faction gains +1 Morale. Each additional faction reduces Morale by -1.

Which Attributes are gained at each level depends on the Hero’s class:

  • Might Heroes are more likely to gain Attack and Defense.
  • Magic Heroes are more likely to gain Spell Power and Knowledge.

Skills

Passive abilities that enhance a Hero’s overall performance. Skills are selected when a Hero levels up through the accumulation of experience points, gained by exploring the world and defeating opponents.

Each Skill has three tiers: Basic, Advanced, and Expert.

As the Hero levels up, the skill can be advanced, with each upgrade improving the core effect and allowing you to tailor your Hero to your preferred playstyle.

Which Skills gained at each level depend on the Hero’s class:

  • Might Heroes tend to learn army-focused Skills.
  • Magic Heroes tend to be offered spell-enhancing Skills.

Artifacts and Inventory

Your Hero can be equipped with a range of Artifacts, powerful items that enhance their abilities or weaken opponents. Artifacts come in four rarities: Common, Rare, Epic, and Legendary. The higher the rarity, the more powerful your artifact.

Many Artifacts are part of Sets. Equipping multiple items from the same set provides additional bonuses.

Artifacts can be improved using Alchemical Dust, and the upgrade is performed directly in the Hero’s Inventory.

Your Inventory can handle dozens of items, meaning you can switch out any slot on your Hero to customize to different playstyles.

You may also sacrifice items at certain Map Objects in exchange for experience points!

Current Army

Displays the current Creature stacks – the number of Creatures of a specific type that will be in a single hex of the battlefield – of the Hero.

You also have various options to split and merge stacks of the same Type by right-clicking on the stack to bring up the menu over said stack. Hover over each option to get an idea on its effect.

heroes olden eraYou can only control a limited number of Heroes at a time. Capturing new Cities will increase that limit, however, if you lose control of City, the maximum number of Heroes decreases, potentially losing the ability to hire new ones.

Each Hero has their own level and set of Skills, and they can play various roles – from a simple scout and resource-collector to a great commander who can conquer your enemies.
