Life-size Mythical Creatures land in Burgers’ Zoo (Netherlands)

From Saturday, 19 October 2024, to Sunday, 9 March 2025, Royal Burgers’ Zoo is hosting an adventure event for all ages! The event is included in the regular admission fee and free for season ticket holders.
Impressive dragons, unicorns, centaurs, tree nymphs, sphinxes, mermaids and countless other well-known and lesser-known mythical creatures can be seen everywhere at Royal Burgers’ Zoo. The Arnhem zoo will be hosting the ‘Marvelous Mythical Creatures’ event until spring 2025.
In collaboration with well-known children’s author Paul van Loon, an audio tour has been developed in which Dolf the Werewolf meets numerous mythical creatures in an exciting adventure.
Meet familiar and lesser-known mythical creatures
Dozens of mythical creatures have been designed under the direction of Burgers’ Zoo, many of which move and produce sound. Visitors will meet well-known creatures such as the Loch Ness monster, the Minotaur, the phoenix, the harpy, the Pegasus and the Yeti, as well as lesser-known creatures such as the manticore, the mandragora and Quetzalcoatl.
In many cases, the mythical creatures refer to existing animal and plant species or are visibly inspired by them.

Dolf the Werewolf audio tour in collaboration with Paul van Loon
One of the most famous mythical creatures is the werewolf. Dolf the Werewolf is a popular creation by children’s author Paul van Loon, with whom Burgers’ Zoo has created an extraordinary audio story set around the mythical creatures at the Arnhem zoo. Visitors of all ages can listen to the audio story in sections by scanning a QR code at each mythical creature.
An exciting adventure in ‘The Dark Forest’
True daredevils (from about ten years old) enter a mysterious maze in search of the Minotaur. Visitors can explore ‘The Dark Forest’ at a special location in our zoo, where they can discover additional exciting mythical creatures such as Cerberus, the manticore and the basilisk. Parents and children can decide for themselves whether they want to see these additional creatures.
