HoMM 3: The Succession Wars mod – New Year update

A great deal has changed since the last update of this kind. The most significant progress has been made in character design, an area that previously required an almost impossible creative leap. The SW team is now able to reinvent the heroes to a level worthy of The Succession Wars, not only in concept but also in high resolution and this work is actively ongoing.

Further design breakthroughs include the underground, the Witch faction as a whole, character writing, and high-resolution interfaces, all of which had been persistent challenges for more than a decade.

Development has also begun on the first entirely new campaign, which is planned to accompany the classic content once the new gameplay systems are fully implemented. Programming, traditionally the main bottleneck of mod development, is progressing, with cautious optimism that these systems will function as intended.

For now, the latest graphical assets from recent months are being showcased, demonstrating a new visual standard for H3SW, higher than ever before. The team holds strong hopes for 2026 and is working intensively toward releasing a tangible result within that year, despite the challenges that have accompanied the project in the past and are likely to arise again.
