Heroes 3 Remake – Devblog #1
I’m adding the first Devblog that appeared on the Heroes 3 Remake STEAM page.
Commanders, following last night’s announcement, we know many of you have questions. In this dev blog, and in the ones to come, we’ll be answering them step by step.
The First Heroes 3 Remake Question
Why make a remake?
The simplest answer is: because people still love it.
For nearly 30 years, Heroes of Might and Magic III has remained the gold standard of turn-based strategy games for many players and one of the most celebrated entries in the entire franchise. Exploring vast adventure maps, engaging in tactical battles, building armies, and developing heroes are experiences that have stood the test of time. Even today, their influence can be seen across modern strategy games.
Within the Heroes III community, players continue to create maps, develop mods, analyze strategies, and organize tournaments. While many classic games gradually lose their active player base over time, Heroes III has maintained a unique vitality thanks to its dedicated community.

Heroes III has already proven its greatness. Our goal is not to redefine it, but to ensure that it remains a game worth discovering, experiencing, and loving for the next thirty years.
That is why we decided to create a remake.

A Remake, But What Kind of Remake?
We do not believe that Heroes III needs to be reinvented.
Our task is to understand why it succeeded and bring that success to a new generation of players.
Back in 2015, Heroes III HD Edition was released with the goal of bringing the game to modern systems through higher-resolution visuals and updated compatibility. However, both community feedback and player reception made one thing clear: for a game like Heroes III, improved graphics alone are not enough.
Players want access to the complete content experience. They want better multiplayer functionality, modern UI and UX standards, and a technical foundation capable of supporting the game long into the future.

These expectations led us to a new question:
If we were building Heroes III today, how would we do it?
That question became the foundation of three core principles that guide this project.

Authentic
Authenticity means two things to us.
The remake includes the full original story experience, including The Restoration of Erathia and both expansion packs, Armageddon’s Blade and The Shadow of Death. From day one, players will have access to all factions.
The second is gameplay authenticity.
Heroes III became a classic because of its unique blend of strategy and RPG elements, built around three core pillars:
- Adventure map exploration
- Tactical combat
- Town management
Throughout development, these pillars have guided every major decision we make. We’ve preserved the original gameplay framework while working hard to maintain the pacing and balance that veteran players know and love.
At the same time, we’ve introduced carefully considered quality-of-life improvements to reduce unnecessary friction while respecting the spirit of the original experience.
Classic features such as the Random Map Generator and Hot Seat mode will also return in full.

Refreshed
First and foremost, the game has been rebuilt entirely in 3D.
While preserving the visual identity and artistic spirit of the original, we have recreated maps, towns, and battlefields from the ground up to deliver a more immersive and dynamic experience.
At the same time, we are committed to presenting classic content through a modern lens. From visual effects and animations to environmental details, our goal is to recreate the world players remember with the production values expected today.
Beyond graphical improvements, we have also focused on every aspect of the gameplay experience. Through a wide range of usability improvements, including more intuitive information displays, smoother controls, and optional ways to tailor the experience, we aim to eliminate unnecessary friction so players can focus on strategy, decision-making, and storytelling.
Evergreen
We want to build upon that strength.
To preserve the enormous library of community content, the map editor will allow creators to import maps made for the original game and convert them for use in the remake.
We have integrated UGC platform directly into the game, allowing players to easily upload and share, browse, and download mods and maps. In addition, our in-game UGC toolkit will provide creators with powerful tools to build their own maps, scenarios, and modifications.
Finally, we are already collaborating with members of the community and plan to create even more opportunities for players to contribute, create, and showcase their work in the future.
One Commitment, Two Games
That decision gave rise to two distinct but closely connected projects.
Heroes of Might and Magic: Olden Era will introduce new stories, new factions, and new adventures.
Heroes of Might and Magic III Remake, meanwhile, is focused on bringing the classic experience that defined the series into the modern era.
Though these projects take different approaches, they are driven by the same belief:
For us, the remake is more than a nostalgic look back. It is a commitment to the future of the franchise. A commitment to preservation, innovation, and long-term investment.

Heroes of Might and Magic III Remake is not intended to replace the original game.
Its purpose is to help more players discover the world of Heroes.
No Need to Leave Your Comfort Zone
Of course, we understand that the original Heroes III has been part of many players’ lives for decades, and we believe it will continue to be so for years to come.
Alongside the announcement of H3R, we are bringing back the 1999 original version of Heroes of Might and Magic III to Steam on August 25.

Perfect. Please make character look change depending ot what artifxats they wera. Similar to diablo. It will not damage classic feel but will give non static look / ownership to the character it self
Or make somthing like the ragdolls in Might and Magic series
