Day of Reckoning – Winter 2025/2026 Update
This Day of Reckoning mod update takes a more informal tone. With the holiday rush, stress, and numerous obligations behind the scenes, the DoR Team felt it was a good moment to slow down briefly and reflect at least until the end of the update, after which it is back to business as usual.

Rather than focusing solely on recent changes, this update serves as a retrospective of the past year. It highlights some of the progress made over the last twelve months, while also acknowledging that there is still plenty of content that cannot yet be revealed. While the Palace faction has already been showcased, two additional factions are currently in development.
Looking back, it is somewhat surprising to realize that progress on other factions was, at one point, even further along than work on the Palace. This was not during the earliest prototype phase, when the Palace consisted of hastily assembled units, but at a later stage of development.
That said, the DoR Team has now shifted focus firmly toward completion. Work on the town screens is nearly finished, following the quality standards previously demonstrated with the Forge town screen preview and in some cases even surpassing them. This year marked a significant improvement in the team’s artistic output, supported by clearer design principles and careful reference to Heroes 3 original visual language.

Despite being covered in a thick sheet of glaciers, or perhaps thanks to it, the Snow Elves and other people are able to build imposing fortifications made of ice. These serve as the basis for new towns.
Creatures are in a similar state of progress. Only a few remain unfinished by Heroes 3 standards. While there are still many concepts that could potentially be added before version 1.0, the game already features a strong roster of neutral creatures with distinctive and useful abilities, alongside alternates.

The Coeurl is the level 4 alternate creature in Grotto. It is a fast, mobile creature with an ability related to illusory effects, powerful enough to be a viable alternative to the ever-spreading Fungoid. A staple of DnD, as are beholders and other creatures from H3, this feline monster also has loose ties to the Dark Elves, through Drizzt Do’Urden’s familiar and the general aesthetics of the Underdark.
However, town screens and creatures are only part of what Day of Reckoning aims to deliver. The modification also introduces two new terrain types. One of them saw strong progress last month, while the other still requires a comprehensive design overview, one of the upcoming tasks for the team.
A wide range of miscellaneous graphics has already been completed, though many elements are still in development. These include UI components, certain adventure map locations, spells, icons, combat obstacles, and siege screens particularly the latter. While these assets may be less demanding than town screens or creatures, they are no less essential. The team also plans to review the growing collection of new heroes created by Nephretes, a well-known contributor from the Polish Heroes community.

The evolution of Male Cleric, Female Ranger, Male Alchemist, and Male Elementalist. The Elementalist was changed due to the original being literally just a recolor of Dracon, a Tower campaign hero, and to better encompass the faction’s aesthetic.
Beyond visuals, development continues on story writing, music, and sound design. A substantial number of creature sounds have already been completed, town themes are virtually finished, and narrative work is progressing in parallel with other tasks.
Finally, there is programming. While details remain under wraps, the DoR Team confirms that the previously released teaser was recorded entirely in-game. For now, much of the extensive technical work behind Day of Reckoning remains unseen—but it is very much ongoing.

Hey, new ERA player here, used to the old WOG 3.58f system. I wanted to ask if there’s any way to enable using First Aid Tents in battles such as Griffin Conservatories, Dwarven Treasuries and the likes. In WOG you used to be able to have the tents in these battles, but in ERA they’re missing. Thanks!
Was it really possible, I’m thinking of the First Aid tent now? I know that you could have a catapult in all battles, for example, and it was possible with the WOG Option – Enhanced War Machines II.
