The Mysterious Island map is coming to HoMM: Olden Era

One of the most beloved fan-made Heroes of Might and Magic III maps is making the jump to Heroes of Might and Magic: Olden Era. Unfrozen has officially announced that The Mysterious Island, the adventure map inspired by Jules Verne’s novel, will be added to the game alongside its creator, Papyjama, who has joined the studio as a designer.

According to Unfrozen, the Olden Era version is already in the late stages of development and will become the game’s first giant-sized handcrafted PvE map. Even more exciting is the fact that Papyjama will be creating additional maps and scenarios for the game in the future.

A new developer video and interview with Papyjama provide a closer look at the history of The Mysterious Island and offer a small glimpse of what players can expect.

Hi heroes!
In 1998, as a kid, I discovered Heroes II and immediately had this crazy idea: make the map from Jules Verne’s “The Mysterious Island”.

The XL size was too small, so I waited until 2020, when the modding community made Giant-sized maps possible.
Five years later, I published it on maps4heroes. What happened next was beyond anything I expected. Your enthusiasm and feedback pushed me to keep improving it for a whole year.
Earlier this year, I applied for a job at Unfrozen. Thanks to this adventure, partly thanks to you, I am now a Level Designer working on Olden Era.
To be honest: there is a huge difference between working on a map slowly on your free time, and working as a Level Designer. With a family to feed, this opportunity changes everything!
For those who don’t like Olden Era: don’t worry, Heroes III is still here, immortal! I plan to keep updating the map, and when the Forge arrives, maybe two versions: one with, one without. 🙂
For those who like Olden Era: the Olden Era version of The Mysterious Island is in development. Act I first (main island, 6 factions), with more acts to follow.
It’s not a copy of the Heroes III version. It’s a different adventure.
If you can survive my French accent for 40 minutes, you can find the interview on Unfrozen’s YouTube channel.

If not, see you soon on Jadame🙂
Thank you all. One year ago, I would NEVER have imagined this possible!
