HoMM: Olden Era – New interface, bigger battlefield, Naiads and more

The Unfrozen studio continues to listen closely to its fans and once again, together with Ana, has prepared an excellent video showing what we can look forward to in the Heroes of Might and Magic: Olden Era Early Access.

The first major improvement is the much-requested change to the interface. It is now clearer and resembles the interface from Heroes III much more. Personally, I would still welcome the option to change its color according to the player’s color.

The second major change is the enlarged battlefield. Battles will now feel much more tactical, and the battlefield backgrounds have also been improved, adding more depth to combat.
You can now zoom in/out on the battlefield, which is especially useful when there is a huge clash happening in one area and you want to take a closer look.

The interface of the Mage guild has also been redesigned, and Unfrozen introduced Astrology Points, which can be used to unlock global spells.

There are also new options to make the adventure map more readable. For example, you can tone down the background colors so that piles of gold, stone, and other resources are much easier to spot. You can also choose the color used to highlight interactive objects. This is definitely a welcome improvement.

Players will also be able to customize hotkeys according to their own preferences, with a very clear and easy to use configuration screen.

Two units from the demo version have already received new and, in my opinion, very successful visual designs: the Cavalry and the Dreadknight.

However, there is another change in the Grove faction (previously called Sylvan). The level 4 unit Aqualotls has been removed and replaced by a completely new unit called Naiad, which in my opinion fits the Grove theme much better. To be honest, Aqualotls always reminded me a bit of the Pokémon Vaporeon.

On the adventure map, when you right-click a neutral unit, you will now be able to see more detailed information about it. This is great, especially early in the game when you cannot yet accurately estimate the strength of neutral stacks.

Additional tooltips will finally appear next to icons, which will again be particularly helpful at the beginning if you are not sure what a specific button does. This is especially useful for heroes and their subclasses.

A Finish Battle option has also been added, allowing you to instantly finish a battle when you already know you will win it easily, saving valuable time.

There is also Auto Combat, which will play out the battle for you in real time. This feature should be great for testing various wild combat combinations.
