HoMM: Olden Era Patch #11: Necromancy Update, UI Tweaks and Balance Changes

The developers of Heroes of Might and Magic: Olden Era have released a major new update focused on rebalancing faction mechanics, fixing exploits, and improving overall gameplay. Based on player feedback and in-game statistics, the patch introduces a number of significant changes that are expected to reshape the current meta.

Necromancy rework

The biggest overhaul comes to Necromancy. The mechanic has been completely reworked, allowing players to raise defeated enemy units as undead even if they did not previously have creatures of the same tier in their army. The cost of raising undead using Necromantic Energy has also been rebalanced, while the combat results screen now includes new interface elements, including the option to recycle fallen enemies directly into Necromantic Energy.

Several faction-specific abilities have also been adjusted. Schism’s Abyssal Communion now affects units from other factions as well, while Hive’s larvae mechanics have been redesigned to place greater emphasis on their explosive abilities.

Battle Magic rework

The update also brings important balance changes to Battle Magic. Following previous nerfs to Might heroes, Magic heroes had become considerably stronger, prompting the developers to restore the base values of the Battle Magic skill. The controversial Summon Avatar ability has also been reworked: its basic version is weaker, but players now have access to more situational upgrades through its sub-skills.

New RMG templates

Competitive players will also find new Random Map Generator tournament templates, including Jebus Tournament and Outcast Tournament, both featuring uninterrupted simultaneous turns. Two hybrid templates, Mix and Galaxy, have also been added. In addition, the template rotation has been updated for both Classic Mode and Single Hero Mode, along with slight adjustments to the faction pick-and-ban order.

The patch fixes numerous bugs as well. Among the most notable are the removal of an exploit that allowed Temple players to generate unlimited resources on the adventure map, corrections to the alternative attack damage of Dungeon dragons, and fixes for multiplayer save-loading issues.

The developers also reminded players that intentionally exploiting bugs in competitive multiplayer may result in temporary or permanent bans, and encouraged everyone to continue playing fairly. Full changelog here.
