Heroes 3 VCMI version 1.7.4 is now available with Heroes-o-pedia

New update, version 1.7.4 is now available. This is one more update to 1.7 series, and if everything goes well, final 1.7.X release. Most notable feature in this release is addition of in-game wiki, that allows you to see information on all content present in game – towns, creatures, artifacts, and more. It covers all content from Heroes 3, as well as any content added by mods!

⚙️WoG Folder is online source of HoMM mods I’ve discovered over the past decade. It’s regularly updated, and all mods are neatly organized. The WoG Folder also contains various goodies like the Did you know?“ series, artworks, manuals, meme collections, and more.

VCMI version 1.7.4 changelog:

  • Added in-game Wiki that can be opened via F1 or from adventure map options menu
  • Weblate integrated for translations. Czech, German, Polish, Spanish, Swedish, Turkish and Ukrainian are now fully translated
  • Tutorial map is now correctly imported from gog.com installer
  • Discord integration is now available on all desktop systems

Stability

  • Fixed crash when high-level hero is defeated by neutrals in combat
  • Fixed crash on attempt to load save game with dot in its file name
  • Fixed crash on attempt to start a campaign with game set to Japanese language
  • Fixed crash on loading campaign in VCMI format located in .zip archive
  • Fixed crash on accessing battle-only mode after disabling mod that provides skill used by preconfigured hero
  • Fixed crash on winning scenario by building specified structure when there is enemy player with owned town on a map
  • Fixed crash on macOS when scenario finishes during AI turn
  • Fixed crash on iOS on connecting external display
  • Fixed inability to load .vmap with corrupted spell list in towns
  • Fixed inabilily to load WoG maps with WoG artifacts or creatures placed on map
  • Fixed crash if there are two creatures with same string identifiers from two mods and one of them is used for high scores

Mechanics

  • Basic Dimension Door now correctly allows two spell casts
  • Invincible units like Couatls can no longer be targeted by area attacks by Magogs and Power Liches
  • Fixed Cornucopia not providing its bonuses if artifact was assembled mid-game
  • Removed transfer of troops from 2nd to 3rd mission of Dragon Slayer campaign

Interface – Adventure Map

  • Fixed move reminder dialog not displaying when player presses end turn while having heroes with set path
  • Split unit stack dialog now automatically selects 1 unit to split off when opened
  • Spellbook is now correctly recolored to color of current player
  • Clearing creature bank will now correctly show name of creatures received as a reward in reward message
  • Rally Flag and Oasis now use correct description messages on right-click
  • Added indication of artifact held by a unit on creature icon in army view
  • Fixed swapped messages in Altar of Sacrifice
  • Description and popup window of Spell Shrines now matches H3
  • Added buttons to access wiki, map search, and statistics from adventure options window

Interface – Main Menu

  • Swapped Chat and Battle Mode button positions
  • Removed Chat button in single player and hotseat games
  • Hotseat mode now requires at least 2 players to proceed to map selection
  • Multiplayer game now requires at least 2 players to start the game
  • Multiplayer host / join player name dialog now displays correct title and description
  • Chat window is now active by default in multiplayer over network
  • Maps with too small number of human players are now hidden in map selection in multiplayer games

Interface – Other

  • Turn options button no longer shows up on Scenario Information screen during gameplay
  • Hero invite window now uses list view instead of table view
  • Fixed buttons on statistics screen incorrectly using selected state
  • Shooting is no longer shown as valid action for blocked units
  • Creature window now correctly uses singular form for single-unit stacks
  • Buying War Machine in Blacksmith or War Machine Factory will now show warning if player has a different machine in a slot
  • Added dedicated spell research dialog
  • Added dedicated stack experience dialog

AI

  • Fixed MMAI walking into moat without attacking during sieges
  • Reworked Battle AI spellcasting logic to improve performance
  • Improved Batle AI targeting selection for spells like Inferno
  • Battle AI is now less likely to cast spells like Firewall and Force Field

Launcher

  • Fixed bug where it was not possible to enable installed mod if mod version available in repository is not compatible with local version of VCMI
  • Fixed display of mod descriptions containing HTML tags
  • Launcher will now correctly preserve state of submods when updating a mod
  • Heroes 3 installed using Ubisoft Launcher will now be correctly detected on first launch
  • Mod search filter now also looks up untranslated mod name
  • Added option to extract Content.zip from downloaded mods on install
  • Fixed local server port always resetting to 3030 on starting Launcher

Map Editor

  • Fixed crash on clicking on random artifacts
  • Added UI for configuring disposed heroes

Lobby

Modding

  • combatCastEvent now correctly activates for units with move-and-cast ability
  • canCastOnlyOnSelf spell flag no longer also allows targeting corpses
  • It is now possible to configure number of days in a week and number of weeks in a month
  • Added new adventure spell type, reinforcements that implements spell with same name from newer HoMM games
  • Bonuses with UNTIL_BEING_ATTACKED duration are now removed after counter-attack
  • Game will now generate background for recruitment dialog for 4-6 creatures
  • Added --translate-mod switch to VCMI server that correctly exports all texts for all submods, taking into account any string overrides
  • Added LONG_WEAPONbonus that allows unit to perform a melee attack from two hexes away if there is exactly one empty hex between attacker and target
  • Added autogenerated UI for university-like buildings with up to 7 skills for select
