Fallen of the Depth update 1/2025

Underground realms have always hidden a bit of mystery. For some reason, they’ve often stirred a sense of unease. Obviously, dark, winding corridors could be the reason for this. And yet! Somewhere in these depths, Kobolds found their refuge. These are exceptionally intelligent creatures, perfectly adapted to the underground conditions.
They walk upright. Their unusually thick skin is highly resistant to all kinds of scratches, which are inevitable when moving through dark tunnels. Their elongated snouts and large nostrils give them an excellent sense of smell. You also can’t miss their saber-like, sharp, long claws. Do you see that tail, too? It keeps them in constant, unshakable balance.
So, dear friends, you’ve met the first inhabitants of the Casamates — Kobolds and their slightly better-trained versions: Red Kobolds. A small secret — they are distant cousins of dragons!
Let’s get back to the underground. They’re not only about darkness and mystery. They’re also dangerous due to the monsters you might encounter by accident. You wanted the Casamates to be a “mushroom kingdom”? How perfect! Among the inhabitants, there are those who are easily mistaken for mushrooms.
And what would you say to a ghastly mix of mushroom and bat? That’s probably the simplest way to describe the Fungocullus. Fungo-what? — you might ask. Ha, no wonder you’ve never heard of them. They are creatures so toxic to humans and their surroundings that very few survive to speak of them.
Due to their danger, they hide deep, deep underground, where they can live in peace. They resemble giant puffballs with an unusual hue, all for camouflage. But their appearance is unsettling. Do you know why? It’s all about the eyes! Yes, eyes. Fungocullo and Fungocullus have many of them.
Sometimes, you might say, too many. But that’s just how they are. Sounds rather unpleasant, doesn’t it? So, how do you let such monsters past the gates? The trick is to find someone immune to their poison. And Tekla fits that role perfectly.
Few know, but there are more mushroom-like creatures. We already know about the Fungocullo, so what else? More amiable beings, and also easier on the eyes — the Myconids. One might say they’re little mushroom-headed people. Such beings sound like a dream for a “Mushroom Kingdom.”
But it won’t be that simple. Fungocullo and Myconids hate each other. No one really knows whether it’s a matter of comparing cap sizes or something else. Nevertheless, due to this mutual hatred, no wise ruler would give shelter to both races within the walls of one city. A tough choice must be made here — Fungocullo or Myconids.
Thri-kreen, as they are called, are highly intelligent beings. They walk upright on two legs—but that’s where their similarities to humans end. What sets them apart is their four upper limbs. Rumor has it that this trait allows them to master skills unlike any other, but more on that later.
In addition to their extra limbs, Thri-kreen possess two antennae on their heads. It’s unclear whether this grants them telepathic abilities, but it certainly enhances their spatial awareness and sensory perception. Their skin ranges from yellowish to greenish hues, depending on their age and experience. Though smooth in texture, it is both durable and flexible. Only their lower limbs feature rough patches—an adaptation to life among the rocks. But enough about their appearance—you’re probably most curious about their craft…
Thri-kreen originate from ancient tribes. Their lifespan in a natural environment (without combat) remains undefined. This has allowed them to pass down truly arcane knowledge through generations. Their greatest secret? The Ancient Runes, known in their native tongue as Mythrak Ovril. Each individual, upon reaching a certain age, is initiated into this mystic art. You’ve likely never heard of it before—because they are willing to lay down their lives to keep it from falling into the wrong hands.
One of the most outstanding students—and later mentors—of this art is Vhre’kzirht, known in common speech as Morsente. Years of dedication to the craft allowed her to be the first—and so far, the only—one to create her own unique and powerful rune. It is unlike any that the Thri-kreen have ever known, and it answers only to her.
You might mistakenly associate Ancient Runes with the familiar schools of Earth, Water, Air, and Fire magic—but they are something entirely different. This discipline can only be learned within the walls of the Casamate. However, it is no simple feat. Still, it is worth the effort, as using runes in battle does not require mana, and as one advances through the ranks, their spellbook fills with more and more abilities.
Among today’s newly revealed artworks, you may notice an exceptional hero. He cannot go unmentioned. V’rath’k is strict and dangerous, raised with unwavering discipline. This has made him a formidable leader, deeply respected among his kind. For this reason, his role in the Casamate is to recruit and train young Thri-kreen warriors.
