Heroes of Might and Magic: Olden Era? Is It Worth Buying?

So, heroes, are you still hesitating about whether to pick up Heroes of Might and Magic: Olden Era on Steam? If you’ve played the demo, it should already be clear that the game has huge potential.

Here’s my humble Olden Era take

First off, I want to say that I’m not exactly an experienced reviewer or tester. 🙂

When I got access to Olden Era for beta testing back in December 2024, it already felt like a finished game to me, something that could’ve been released right away… 😀

Fortunately, that didn’t happen. That extra year (and a bit) of development helped the game tremendously.

Thanks to Unfrozen’s work, along with excellent testers and valuable feedback from players through the demo, the game has reached such a polished state that calling it “Early Access” (a term many of us associate with buggy releases) feels a bit misleading.

So… is Olden Era worth it?

100% yes.

Olden Era includes everything we love from Heroes 3: hot-seat multiplayer, single-player story scenarios, a random map generator, a map editor, a campaign (first act), dragons, minotaurs, artifacts, level 2 peasants and more.

For €40 (exact price of the game is not yet known), you’re getting a massive amount of entertainment. And if that feels like too much, just skip one weekend at the bar, you’ll have your game budget right there 🙂

I’m not going to dive into deep analysis here, since you can find plenty of detailed breakdowns on YouTube that will do a better job than I could.

1.5 million Steam wishlists

I’m personally very curious to see how many of the 1.5 million Steam wishlists will convert into actual purchases.

If sales go well, we might eventually see a macOS version, a console release, or even a physical collector’s edition, but that’s just speculation on my part.

That’s it for my thoughts. See you in the world of Jadame or online in the Arena.

PS: Heroes of Might and Magic: Olden Era will be localized into German, French, Spanish, Italian, Czech, Hungarian, Polish, Ukrainian, Turkish, Russian, Brazilian Portuguese, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Korean, and Japanese.
