Why did the Dwarves change faction from Rampart to Academy in Heroes IV?

All these details come from General Kendal’s Diary – Lost manuscript files, written by Jennifer Bullard.

The Dwarves left AvLee because they were tired of long-standing discrimination by the Elves.
In AvLee, the Dwarves were mainly valued only as miners and basic foot soldiers, never truly given equal status or respect within the Elven kingdom. This unequal treatment had gone on for a long time, but tensions came to a head during the ongoing wars.

When conflict broke out about whether to invade Nighon after Mutare’s defeat, the Dwarves sided with Bracada’s King Magnus, who wanted peace instead of vengeance. This political disagreement reopened old wounds about how the Dwarves were treated. Feeling unappreciated and disrespected, many Dwarves decided they would no longer tolerate being second-class citizens in AvLee.

So, they packed up and left AvLee entirely, some settling in the Contested Lands, while others considered offers to settle in Bracada, where they were promised better treatment. Their departure was part of a wider crisis for AvLee, which also lost the Centaurs, Dendroids, and most of its Dragons around the same time (we will also discuss these departures, but later).
