HoMM: Olden Era – Advanced classes explanation

You might not have noticed it while playing the HoMM: Olden Era demo, but heroes actually have advanced subclasses that can be unlocked by choosing the right combination of secondary skills. These subclasses grant heroes very powerful passive abilities.

Heroes of Might and Magic: Olden Era

For example, the Temple faction and its Clerics have two subclasses: Inquisitor and Ascendant. If you manage to unlock the Ascendant subclass, all of your hero’s spells will cost 0 mana. That’s right — no mana, no problem.

To unlock this subclass, you need five specific secondary skills. However, the game doesn’t always offer all of them when you level up, so it’s possible you won’t be able to collect all five and thus won’t unlock the subclass.

At the moment, there’s no in-game list showing exactly which secondary skills are required. Each subclass has its own icon, which appears next to a secondary skill during level-up, hinting at a possible connection.

For instance, to unlock the Ascendant subclass, you need: Expert Primal Magic, Economy, Logistics, Resistance, and Sorcery. Once you have all these skills at the Expert level, the Ascendant subclass unlocks automatically, and your hero’s spells will cost no mana at all.

In the next part of the article, you’ll find a list of all available subclasses for the four factions featured in the Olden Era demo — Temple, Schism, Dungeon, and Necropolis — along with details on which secondary skills are required to unlock each subclass, and most importantly, what passive abilities they grant your heroes.
