The regeneration ability obtained through the Elixir of Life artifact does not regenerate the top unit’s full health, but a maximum of 50 HP per turn.

In addition to the regular bonuses from combined artifacts, the Elixir of Life increases basic health of all living creatures by 25% (rounded down) and gives them a regeneration ability similar to that of Trolls or Wraiths (regenerate maximum 50 points of health). Neither of these abilities applies to Undead or non-living (unliving) units, they only get +4 HP bonus from components.
