Q: How will the game be monetized?

A: Conquerors of Fate will be free to play with strictly cosmetic micro-transactions. NO pay-to-win, NO loot-boxes.

Q: Why free to play?

A: The game is reliant on a community to be an enjoyable experience. With no community, there would be no custom maps, people to play online in PvP, or feedback for balance changes. With free-to-play, we can (hopefully) build a larger, more vibrant community than if the game were a fixed price purchase.

Q: Micro-transactions suck. Can’t I just buy the game?

A: The plan is to offer a fixed-price option that grants you all current and future cosmetics, and removes any in-game cosmetic shop interface.

Q: What platforms will be supported?

A: PC, Mac, and Linux.

Q: How will the game be distributed? Will there be DRM? Will the game work offline?

A: The game will be distributed through Steam. There will be no DRM. Single-player and hot-seat will be available offline. More details on this as I work on Steam integration.

Q: Steam sucks. Can’t I just run the game without it?

A: Ideally, yes. I’ll be able to give more concrete details on this as I work on Steam integration.

Q: Will the game be open-source?

A: The game will not, but the map editor will be released as an open-source project. Additionally, I want to release an open-source tool to run combat simulations, for (AI) testing and balance purposes.

Q: What does the roadmap look like?

A: Once combat and multiplayer are in a good state, the plan is to have some people test PvP multiplayer and begin work on the RMG (random map generator). This will allow players to give early feedback on balance and iron out as many bugs as possible. After that, work on AI for single-player will begin.

Q: What about a timetable?

A: The game will ship When It’s Ready ™. I think we are all sick of buggy, incomplete launches of games.

Q: What about campaigns?

A: The initial release won’t include any campaigns. Some players are only interested in PvP or custom maps, so I don’t want to delay the release until campaigns are ready. Plus, I want to take the time to work on a really compelling campaign experience.

Q: What languages will the game support?

A: At least English, Russian, and Polish will be supported at launch.

Q: I’d like to support the project. How can I help?

A: You can support development via Patreon. Join the Community Discord to discuss the game and development.
