On the Altar of Sacrifice, what you can sacrifice depends on your town’s alignment. Good towns (Castle, Tower, Rampart) can only sacrifice artifacts for experience. Evil towns (Inferno, Necropolis, Dungeon) can only sacrifice creatures. Neutral towns (Stronghold, Fortress, Conflux) can sacrifice both artifacts and creatures.
