*We recommend to use fheroes2_windows_x86_SDL2 version for latest OSes, while SDL1 is preferable for old systems.
Hello please someone tell me I download this version played the first mission on easy the campaign is monstrously hard why?
Can’t get the fheroes2.exe (from the fheroes2_windows_x86_SDL2.zip archive, as the .exe installer runs into similar problem) to work on Windows XP SP3. It reports not being a Windows 32 executable — a problem commonly solved by hacking the NT header of the executable — but after being set to a correct NT version, it still reports a problem (namely, a failure to find SleepConditionVariableSRW in Kernel32.dll).
I have the latest XP-compatible version of Visual C++ distributive installed, of course; I can’t install the version recommended in the readme because it, too, asks for Windows 7 or higher.
Any tips, or downloadable solutions?
Hi, sorry, but Fheroes2 may no longer be compatible with Windows XP.
Try to press F4 to launch game in window, then catch the window toolbar and move window to the left untill New Button appears.
Hi all, for mistake I selected a gigantic resolution (something like 3000×2000), and now the game is so zoomed that i can’t click on the door in the menu to change the resolution again… some suggestion??? I tried to uninstall and reinstall the game, but the resolution doesn’t change…

Tried playing the Descendants campaign, and discovered the resources is wrong and Joseph is a knight instead of a wizard also joseph and Ivan is not named II III IV in later scenarios? Do i have an old version of the game or is this a bug?

I cannot get the campaign animation videos work with fheroes2. I checked the YouTube video for this, and also the github web page’s detailed description, but I cannot find out what the problem is. Except for that, that I don’t have an ANIM folder (not even a HEROES2 folder in which the video shows it is hidden), but my original game shows the animations perfectly.
I also tried downloading the demo version with the script, but still no animations.
Any idea what I should do?
Hi, what specific version of Heroes 2 are you using? Because this tutorial works for the Windows version from GOG.
Thank you for your reply. I am using a dosbox version (Heroes 2 GOLD), but I could find a solution. The big file (homm2.gog) in installed Heroes2 folder needs to be renamed to .iso, and then I can mount it to a virtual drive, on which the .smk files can be found.

so in that case fheroes2 mod will help you.
1. Download following Windows installer package: https://github.com/ihhub/fheroes2/releases/latest/download/fheroes2_windows_x64_SDL2_installer.exe
2. After downloading the installer, launch it and follow the instructions.
3. During the installation process, you will be prompted to extract game resources from the original game (select this option if you already have a legally purchased copy of the original game installed), or download the demo version of the original game and extract game resources from it (you can also do this later by clicking the appropriate shortcut in the program’s group in the Windows Start menu).
4. If you purchased a copy of the original game only after installing fheroes2, you can run the Extract game resources from the original HoMM2 distribution shortcut in the program’s group in the Windows Start menu. This script will try to perform an automatic search for an existing installation of the original game and extract all the necessary resource files. If it can’t find an existing installation, you will be prompted to enter the location of the original game manually.
5. As an alternative to the previous step, you can manually copy the subdirectories ANIM, DATA, MAPS and MUSIC (some of them may be missing depending on the version of the original game) from the original game directory to the fheroes2 installation directory.
After download mod, game incorrectly works. for example there is no abbility to play company for archibald, no video companies price of loyalty.

Hi, you probably installed the modification incorrectly, you need the GOG version of Heroes 2 (DOS).

Hi Septon, never happened to me before, try adjusting the screen resolution or try SDL1 version. Are you using the GOG version of the game?
In Roland campaign map 2 (the one where you get 4 geenies) you cannot get out from castle left nor right

The music should work if you use the Heroes 2 Gold windows version of the game from GOG.
